Hi! I’m Terri! I’m 24 and I haven’t returned home in 3 years. After finishing high school in Australia, I travelled solo for the first time to South Africa. I was definitely out of my comfort zone. I was meeting people from all over the globe, I felt anxious among large groups and I didn’t have a very good sense of the world outside of my 12 years of schooling at a Christian college. However over the 4 weeks I developed confidence, life long friendships, knowledge and life skills. Plus, my love for wildlife and travel grew even fonder.
I returned home to Melbourne, Australia and I studied animal rescue and wildlife management for three years. When I received the graduation papers I packed two suitcases and I haven’t returned home since!
I have travelled to 21 countries while living abroad in England and Canada. I met my incredible fiancé, Brad, along my journey and now I have some one special to share it with. Brad is 25 and from Manchester, United Kingdom. An international relationship isn’t the simplest relationship out there. It really has put our love to the test and it has made us stronger. We know that we can handle any curve balls that come our way.
Our current address is Banff, Alberta – the heart of the Canadian Rockies. We are surrounded by natural beauty everyday. Every direction you look to is a gigantic mountain!
Brad and I are planning to live in New Zealand for 1 year and Australia for 2 years after our time in Canada. We are still undecided about where to live permanently but we are still adventuring our options.
It feels very strange for us to be 24 and 25, engaged, without starting a career yet. I mean, we don’t even have our driver’s licenses, we don’t entirely know what career path to take or what country we are going to be living in permanently.
We have many ideas between the both of us – property development, tradesman, bookkeeping, accounting, bar & restaurant managers, AirBnB hosting, online travel agent, pet sitter, animal sanctuary keeper or RSPCA inspector. The list goes on. Please let us know any other ideas!
Travel and the experiences it comes with has truly has shaped me into the person I am today. There’s no regrets about my chosen path and that makes me so happy. All it takes is a great work ethic, research, planning in advance and a little bit of courage to do something out of the ordinary.
I plan to write blogs about my adventures, the ups and downs, the do’s and don’ts, travel ideas, my bucket list, travel deals and giveaways, living life on a visa, international relationships, friendships, passions and dreams.
My ultimate goal is to connect, inspire and motivate travel in individuals from around the globe ✈︎
Safe & happy travels,
Terri Lake
